Fred R. Carlson, 84, of Sioux City died Friday, November 5, 1999 at a Sioux City nursing home.

Graveside services were held November 6 in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Carl Fetterman officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Carlson was born September 4, 1915 in Sioux City, the son of John and Jennie Cecelia (Peterson) Carlson. He attended Sioux City schools.

He married Lelia P. Fetterman on May 20, 1939in elk Point, South Dakota.

He was self-employed as a carpenter. He later was employed with Chris Hansen Construction in Sioux City.

He was a member of First Assembly of God Church and Carpenters Union 948. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, three sons, Fred Jr., of Sioux City, Rick and his wife, Wendy of Alcester, South Dakota and Dan and his wife, Lynette of Edison, N.J., four daughters, June and her husband, Ed Hickman of Denham Springs, La., Pat Carlson and Lee Hedemarkof Indianapolis, Indiana, Jan and her husband, Greg Borchers of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Ginni Shattuck of Sioux City; a sister Rosemary Carlson of Sioux City, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudy and Herb and two grandsons, Jeff and Chad Borchers.

Pallbearers were Fred Jr., Rick Sr., Rick Jr., Dan, Christen and Christopher Carlson and Danny, Greg and Brian Borchers.
