William R. Irwin, 80, of Sioux City died Saturday, May 31, 1997 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Roger D. Graf, pastor of Morningside Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 99 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Irwin was born Nove4mber 1, 1916 in Wessington Springs, South Dakota, the son of Charles S. and Jennie (Schaap) Irwin. He graduated from East High School in Sioux City.

He married Marjorie Lorraine Barkley on May 2, 1942, in South Sioux City. She died May 1, 1987 in Sioux City. He was employed with Sioux Tools for 41 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Siouxland Senior Center and the Soo Federal Credit Union, where he served on the board. He spent his winters in Texas until recently.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Eudell Coleman of Pipestone, Minnesota and Carol and Jim Hinds of LeMars, Iowa, a brothers and his wife, Charles and Angie of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Phyllis and Gene Doran of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Kim Steele, Kris Coleman, David, Michelle and Lisa Hinds and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Wilbern.
