ANTHON, Iowa - Dolores Jean Heath, 72, of Anthon died of cancer on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Burial will be in Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Anthon. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Dolores Jean (Green) Heath was born on Dec. 11, 1936, in rural Oto, Iowa, to Barney and Ethel (Benton) Green. She attended Grant #5 Country School and Oto Public School, graduating in 1955, where she was voted homecoming queen. She then worked at Bishop's Restaurant in downtown Sioux City.

She married Richard Heath on April 7, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto. After living in California briefly, they returned to Anthon and lived on two farms west of town, one near Climbing Hill and the other at the Heath home place. They moved to town in 1973. Dolores worked as bartender and at the Gothier's Mink Ranch during the pelting season. She also worked at Swift Turkey Plant in Sioux City and helped make terraces for the local soil office. She was a cook at the Anthon-Oto School for 16 years, serving as head cook for the last four years. She retired in 1998.

She loved to read, clean house and cook. She loved her purses and her coffee times with her friends. She was especially close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She claimed they were all beautiful, smart and fun. She also loved her pets as family, Boots, Brandy, Baby, Lucy and Spuds, the cat.

Dolores is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard; five children, Lori (Mike) Berning of Anthon, Marcia (Larry) Ober of Omaha, Diana (Bob Lisk) Heath of N. Ft. Myer, Fla., Brian (Annie) Heath and Tracy (Diana Powell) of Anthon; her special family, Russ and Karen Wulf and family; a brother, Glen of Grand Island, Neb.; a sister, Catherine Chedester (Vernon) of Sioux City; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Green and Alma Green of Anthon, and Betty Green of Sergeant Bluff; 17 grandchildren, Sarah (Adam), Jake (Kacie), Matt (Rachel), Elizabeth, Heath (Heather), Jarred (Shannon), Jamie (Samantha), Jenny (Jeff), Kristin (Dennis), Dallas (Stacia), Kolton, Alec, Kobe, Breana, Cassandra, Carter and Jackson; and 12 great-grandchildren (with three on the way), Summer, Brooklyn, Ace, Teddy, Gage, Aubrey, Makenzie, Taylor, Anna, Emma, Breegan and Brenna.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalie Blume and Patricia Green; six brothers, Bill, Bud, Dale, Harold, Bob and Guiles; two sisters-in-law, Erna (Bill) Green and Mabel (Glen) Green; a brother-in-law, Edgar (Rosalie) Blume; and a son-in-law, CC Daly.
