BRONSON, Iowa -- Karen J. Hansen, 68, of Bronson died Monday, July 6, 2009, at a local hospital after a several-months-long battle with cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with Chaplain Neil Peck, CLS, officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Township Cemetery in Bronson.
Karen McNaughton was born Oct. 19, 1940, in Sioux City to Darrell and Helen (Brouwer) McNaughton. She attended schools in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1958.

On Aug. 27, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, E. Kent Hansen, in Sioux City. Into this union, two daughters were born, Shelle and Stacy.

Following high school, she obtained her cosmetology license and operated Morningside Avenue Beauty Shop with her mother-in-law, Carole Hansen. Following that, she worked at Herbold's Auto Auction and, most recently, the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple until illness forced her to retire this summer. She thoroughly enjoyed helping to manage the annual Abu Bekr Shrine Circus and took great pride in helping the Shrine patients with their travel and treatment arrangements.

Karen was a fierce competitor at cribbage and other games she played with her family and friends. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren participate in their sporting events through the years. She and Kent enjoyed camping with their family and friends, especially at Scenic Park. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandma and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years, Kent, of Bronson; daughter and husband Shelle and Mark Baldwin of Anthon, Iowa, and their children, Kyle and wife Jessica, Colt and Ross; daughter and husband Stacy and Jeff Bagby of Norwalk, Iowa, and their children, Eric and Lauren; sister, Sharon Wevill of Grand Junction, Colo.; aunt, Viola Bornholtz of Sioux City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Edee Boyer of McPherson, Kan.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all who will miss her easy-going personality and loving nature.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Helen; brother, Errol; in-laws, Virgil and Carole Hansen; her grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Baldwin, Colt Baldwin, Ross Baldwin, Eric Bagby, Lauren Bagby, Bret Boyer, Jason Boyer and Rob Risdal. Honorary pallbearers include Buster Towns, Dr. Roger Spencer, Jeff Watt and Clarence Carney.
