19 May 2008Doyle Stone, 95, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2915 Glenn Ave., with the Rev. John Pehrson officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Visitation will resume one hour prior to service Wednesday at the church.
Doyle was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Gibson City, Ill., to W.G. "Bill" and Anna Stone. He was raised in the Whiting, Iowa, area. He was a farm worker and over-the-road truck driver for Holdcroft Transportation and Kaplan Wholesale. Later, he drove a tour bus for Arrow Bus Lines.
He married Eleanor Briggs on Oct. 10, 1935, to whom three children were born. He was a family man and enjoyed his immediate and extended family. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Okinawa during World War II.
Doyle and his wife became members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux City in March 1949. He served as an elder and deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; a daughter, Judy and her husband, Marion Clarke of Gainesville, Fla.; two sons, Ron and his wife, Elaine of San Diego, Calif., and Dick of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Stone of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Edgar, Conley and Malvern.
