Raymond E. "Ray" Noble, 76, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 15, 2008 at his residence.
Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Raymond Eugene Noble was born in Sloan, Iowa, on Nov. 16, 1931, the son of Charles and Zelda (Rhoads) Noble. He graduated from the Salix High School in 1950.

On July 26, 1950, Ray was married to Nancy Joan Adams. She died on Dec. 31, 1978. His work through life started after high school when he was employed by A.Y. McDonald Plumbing. He then worked for awhile for Wonder Bread Bakery. In 1962, he began working for Mid-American Energy (formerly IPS), retiring as a crew supervisor in 1988.

On May 3, 1980, Ray was united in marriage to Susan Glennie in Sioux City. Ray was a warm and loving man, known for his unique sense of humor.

Over the years, he coached the church's youth, Little League and basketball. He was a Larry Bird and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Ray was active with the Senior Center and the Art Center. During 1996, Ray began to explore his talent as a self-taught artist. He enjoyed giving away his paintings, most were of nature or farm life.

Ray is survived by his wife, Susan; three sons, Ken and his wife, Jan of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jim and his wife, Kathy of Sioux City, and Steve "Pete" and his wife, Tammy of Sioux City; four daughters, LeAnne and her husband, Phil Lamoureux of Beaver Lake, Neb., Lorri and her husband, Dave Whitesell of Tucson, Ariz., Lisa Nelson of Sioux City, and Mindi Riley-Barrett and her husband, Jeramie Barrett of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his friend, Cliff, the cat.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, David, as an infant, Bob and John; and a sister, Anna Belle Lamb
