Monday, April 8, 1991HINTON, Iowa—Abraham P. Berghuis, 92, of Hinton, died Saturday, April 6, 1991, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Luedtke-Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars, with the Rev. William B. Daylong officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. Tuesday until service time, at the funeral home.
Mr. Berghuis was born April 25, 1898, in Sioux Center, the son of Peter and Effie (Beukelman) Berghuis. He married Leona Lumpkin Sept. 17, 1927. She died in 1946. He was a longtime employee at Pilley’s Creamery in Sioux City, where he was a butter maker. He later farmed near Hinton and also was employed by Clark Brothers’ Elevator in Merrill. On Oct. 22, 1953, he married Viola Beaulieu.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Loren (Bernice) Howe, of Goehner, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one sister, Lena Slappendal, of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Jean Nielsen; two brothers, William and Floyd; and three sisters, Alida DeZeeuw, Coba Wanningen and Florence Keller.
