Elwood "Woody" Meister, 65, of Owatonna, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, May 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn,. following a three-year bout with liver disease.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Owatonna United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Brick-Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Woody was born near Kingsley, Iowa, on April 15, 1943, to Lee and Hazel (Pierce) Meister. He attended country school and elementary school in Merrill, Iowa. He graduated from Le Mars (Iowa) Central High School in 1961. He worked at Toy National Bank in Sioux City. He served with the 185th Iowa National Guard, including a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968.

On Sept. 4, 1970, he married Judy Nelson, of Mapleton, Iowa, at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. In 1972, he graduated from Briar Cliff College. He and his family moved to Owatonna, where he worked for Owatonna Savings and Loan. He later became a partner in the C&M Insurance Agency until his health forced him to retire in 2006.

He was known for his integrity, his smile and quiet sense of humor, his positive outlook, his friendliness and his gentlemanly ways.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; a daughter and her husband, Lisa and David Larson and their children, Derek and Chelsey of Owatonna; a daughter and her husband, Laurie and Donald Howey and their son, Ian, of Houston, Texas; a sister, Mary Lou Potts of Sioux City; and nieces, nephews, several aunts and cousins.
