21 October 2008SIOUX CITY -- Blanche L. Counterman, 72, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at a local care facility.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Verlyn Schaap officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Blanche was born Feb. 20, 1936, in Concord, N.C., the daughter of Edward and Viola (Smoot) McDaniel. She worked as a CNA in Little Rock, Ark. In 1976, she moved from Tennessee to Sioux City.
On June 7, 1985, she was united in marriage to Gregg T. Counterman in Elk Point, S.D. She worked as a senior companion and most recently was self-employed as a day care provider.
She enjoyed country line dancing, fishing, gardening and since her early days, gospel music. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, R. Mike and Debbie Sweatt of Sergeant Bluff, Leon and Renee Crabtree of Sioux City and Mark and Nichole Crabtree of Jefferson, S.D.; four daughters and their husbands, Patsy and Kelly Windle of Sioux City, Kathy Sweatt of Sergeant Bluff, Lynn and Kevin Cole of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Becky and Bill Krula of Le Mars, Iowa; two sisters, Carla Baker and Mick Motley, both of Concord, N.C.; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Linda Sue Sweatt and Karen Denise Sweatt; a granddaughter, Jade Lynn Crabtree; and four brothers.
Memorials may be made to the family for the Blanche Counterman Foundation, which will help fund nursing home residences with their extra expenses.
