SALIX, Iowa -- Raymond F. "Ray" Beeson, 81, of Salix passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the American Legion George Nelson Post 662. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Raymond Francis Beeson was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Oto, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Anna (Lynn) Beeson. He was raised and educated in Salix. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Europe.

On July 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Helen B. Ekberg. He worked as a roofer in the Sioux City area for 40 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Local 19 Roofers Union and the American Legion Post 662 of Sergeant Bluff.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Daniel and his wife, Kathy of Omaha and Larry Beeson of McCook Lake, S.D.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Remer of Sioux City; and a brother, Ed Beeson of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and two sisters.
