3 November 2008SIOUX CITY -- Melvin L. Moe, 87, of Sioux City had a change of address from Lilac Lane to Glory Lane on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave, with Pastor Donna Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors performed by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Melvin was born on Feb. 14, 1921, in Westfield, Iowa, to George M. and Laura (Waterman) Moe. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. Melvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was stationed most of his time in Guam. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 5, 1946.
Melvin worked at Sioux Tools for 45 years, where he was a machinist tool foreman. He retired in 1985. He married Linda Vanos on April 4, 1986, in Elk Point, S.D. He was a member of the Nordic Male Choir. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Sioux City; a son, Rick Moe of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Judith Galbreath and husband, Tom of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Nancy VandeSteeg of Sioux City; five stepchildren, Dennis Vanos and wife, Kathy of Coon Rapids, Minn., Barbara Daniluck and husband, John of Walkersville, Md., Valerie Harwood and husband, Pat of Omaha, Neb., Christine Edmisten and husband, Charles of Coon Rapids, and Debra Larsson and husband, Peter of Annapolis, Md.; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie in 1980; a brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Betty.
