21 April 2008Dorothy I. Hindman Cleveland, 92, of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 18, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing & Rehab Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. vigil service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Dorothy was born Dec. 28, 1915, on a farm near Volin, S.D., the daughter of Thomas O. and Mary (Simmel) Wharton. She was married to Robert Hindman and later to Marvin Cleveland. Dorothy had lived in Sioux City since 1932. She worked at Wincharger Corporation until the plant closed, for St. Joseph Hospital in housekeeping for several years and then at the Silver Steer Restaurant. She managed the 7-11 Store in Leeds for several years before retiring from Jiffy Lube in 1998, where she worked as their secretary and bookkeeper.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Dorothy enjoyed watching baseball, traveling and her grandchildren. In earlier years, she loved to dance.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, James and Dixie Lee Hindman of Westminster, Md., and Monte and Kathy Cleveland of Omaha; two daughters-in-law, Kathy Hindman of Omaha, and Edelleen (Hindman) Rodberg of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Robert Hindman; her parents; three brothers, Earl, Dale and Maurice Wharton; and two sisters, Florence Keairns and Winnie McFarland.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Cleveland, Jason Cleveland, Tim Hindman, Darren Hindman, Brian Hindman and Dr. Paul Feinberg.
