SIOUX CITY -- Marie Dam, 99, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing & Rehab Center.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Marie was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Emerson, Neb., to Max and Dorothea (Schroader) Marten. She grew up in the Emerson area. After graduating from high school, Marie moved to Sioux City.

She married Harry Dam Sr. on Aug. 19, 1929, in Elk Point, S.D. Mr. Dam died Feb. 13, 1987, in Sioux City. Marie worked in the voting registration office at City Hall in Sioux City for several years.

She attended Morningside Lutheran Church. She had served as president for the Committee on Political Action. The most important part of Marie's life were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, gardening, baking and cooking.

Survivors include four children, Jan Petrow of San Diego, Calif., Harriett Greschke of Prosper, Texas, Harry Dam Jr. and his wife, Mary E. of Newberry Springs, Calif., and Marian Knepper and her husband, Alex of Sioux City; two sisters, Alma Klesenborf of Surprise, Calif., and Helen Laurencelle of Michigan; 13 grandchildren, Chuck Harms, Jay Knight, Jody Jackson, Mark Knight, Kevin Knepper, Scott Greschke, Brad Knepper, Brian Dam, Barry Greschke, Cindy Davis, Karla Goulet, Greg Dam and Paul Knepper; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Knight; her parents; six brothers; and a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Knepper.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland.
