SIOUX CITY -- Jean Ballantyne, 69, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with family by her side.

Abiding by Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church. Interment will be at a later date. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jean was born on June 10, 1939, in Sioux City, to Robert M. and Lucille (Peterson) Moughan. She graduated from Central High School with the class of 1959.

Jean married Ron McLeran in 1959, to which union four sons were born. She was a meticulous homemaker as she stayed at home raising her family while her husband, Ron's military career required the family to relocate numerous times. Jean was married to Ron for 16 years before the marriage ended.

Jean married Richard Ballantyne on Jan. 20, 1976, in Elk Point, S.D. She worked at Sunshine Grocery in Sioux City and was manager of the doughnut counter before she began her own business of cleaning houses, which she enjoyed for over 10 years.

She was an active member of Central Baptist Church, a past caregiver with the Hospice of Siouxland organization, continued to keep a spotless home, and she truly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Ballantyne of Sioux City; sons, Michael McLeran of Atlanta, Ga., Jay McLeran and his wife, Becky of Hastings, Minn., Kelly McLeran of Wichita, Kan., and Shawn McLeran of Eagan, Minn.; stepchildren, Lisa Jensen and her husband, Doug of Phoenix, Ariz., Beth Quinn and her husband, Lance of Little Rock, Ark., and Amy Walsh and her husband, Mike of Ireland; sisters, Barbara Prochello of Sioux City, and Patricia Paradise and her husband, James of Denver, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to the Mayo Clinic's Cancer Research Center.
