SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Carl Wayne Saltsgiver, 92, of Lawton, Iowa, formerly of South Sioux City, passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Abiding by his wishes, the body was cremated. Private family graveside services will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Carl was born May 9, 1916, in South Sioux City, the son of Frank A. and Mary (Manor) Saltsgiver. He graduated from high school and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a self-employed masonry contractor before retiring.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gene and Judy of Sloan, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Richard and Lyda of Dakota City; and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert Saltsgiver; and a sister, Bernice Swisberger.
