SERGEANT BLUFF -- Edgar Carl Shupe, 75, of Sergeant Bluff died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa, with the Rev. Paul Samuelson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Shupe was born July 20, 1927, in Albaton, the son of Carl E. and Alta Orchea (Duncan) Shupe. On May 31, 1950, he married Ruth Birchard. He was a farm laborer and in 1989, he quit working to take care of his mother.

He was a member of Hornick Methodist Church and American Legion Hindman-Steele Post 492 of Hornick, Iowa.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephani Miller of Omaha and Nanette and her husband, Dave Van Horn, of South Cranston, R.I.; two granddaughters, Abagail Van Horn of South Cranston, R.I., and Jessica and her husband, Greg Stephens, of Grand Junction, Colo.; a great-granddaughter, Katie Stephens; six brothers, Ernest and his wife, Leila, of Turin, Iowa, Duane and his wife, Jean, of Omaha, Donald and his wife, Lue, of Tucson, Ariz., Gary and his wife, Lyla, of Sioux City, Richard and his wife, Evie, of Tucson and Howard of Sioux City; seven sisters, Betty Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Mary and her husband, Michael McInerney, of South Sioux City, Vera Ann and her husband, Morey Copple, of Sloan, Iowa, Margaret and her husband, Denny Bauman, of South Sioux City, Nancy and her husband, Joe Shelley, of Larrabee, Iowa, Debbie and her husband, Ken Poulsen, of South Sioux City and Rubya Pittman of Onawa, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Herschel and Raymond; and two sisters, Phyllis Bauer and Evonne Baker.
