Willard R. Baker, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sioux City officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Willard R. Baker was born Jan. 4, 1920, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Wallace and Dora (Treadway) Baker. He moved to Sioux City early in his childhood. He attended Central High School, graduating in 1939.

He married Evelyn Pierce on Dec. 12, 1952, in Sioux City. He worked for Sioux Tools, Wincharger and later at Prince Manufacturing in Sioux City as a machinist. He retired in 1985.

He enjoyed talking and working on his HAM radio and CB radio. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aero Space Workers.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Sioux City; a son, Brian Baker of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Glenn Baker of Sioux City, Sally and Eddie Murdock of Walthill, Neb., and Jacqueline and Bill Triggs of Eugene, Ore.; three grandsons, John, Matt and Mark Baker; a granddaughter, Jennifer LaFranchi; and a great-granddaughter, Courtney LaFranchi.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Tony Drake Jr., Bob Randall, John Baker, Matt Baker, Mark Baker and Sam Garcia.
