SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy May McGinty, 79, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. R. Paul Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Dorothy was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Sioux City, to James H. and Anna Estella May (Collier) Short Sr. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. She began working at Cudahay Packing House after high school.

She married John Charles McGinty on July 16, 1949, in Sioux City. After their marriage, she worked at Younkers-Martin. She later became a foster parent. She then began working at Sioux City Schools as a teacher's aide for many years, retiring from that position.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for 30 years, and a member of Esther Bacon Circle. She also enjoyed playing bridge. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family, including her dogs, very much.

She is survived by her children, Scott Eugene McGinty of Omaha, Lynn Marie Clayborne and Julie May and her husband, Percy Walton, all of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Damon (Tiffany) Clayborne, Atheana Clayborne, Alisha (Nazar) Clayborne-Hamid, Porsha Clayborne, Kyle (Lindsey) McGinty, Chesney McGinty, Kache (Shannon) Houck, Shaquille McGinty, Edmond McGinty, Taiava Walton, Precious Walton; 10 great-grandchildren, Deion, Kobe, Kason, Aubrianna, Jazlynn, Trevon, Julian, Maia, Darion and Lucian; four sisters-in-law, Mary Short, Ida May and her husband, Phillip Borschuk, Mary and her husband, Chuck Oostenbrug and Beverly and her husband, Thomas Waechter; a brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Karen McGinty; a nephew and his wife, James and Candy Short Jr.; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on April 1, 2002; and a brother, James Short.
