Alvina J. Langley, 94, of Sioux City passed away Monday, March 31, 2008, at her son's residence following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Alvina was born Dec. 2, 1913, in White Lake, S.D., the daughter of William Robert and Susan (Hettinger) Axemaker. She graduated from Central High School in 1932.

She married Leonard C. "Bill" Langley on Feb. 25, 1933 in Sioux City. He died Jan. 21, 1979 in Sioux City. The couple farmed in Plymouth County, Iowa from 1946 to 1956, when they moved back to Sioux City.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of the Siouxland Senior Center, where she enjoyed belonging to their drama club and doing lip syncing. She loved to play cards and bingo. She thoroughly enjoyed playing the slot machines with her sisters.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dennis and Mary Ellen Langley of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Lenore and Jim Wingert of Sioux City; two sisters, Marcella "Marty" Mustapha and Arlene White, both of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Debra and Derek Davis, Diana and Bryan Jones, Denise and Mitch Osterholt, Duane and Kelly Langley, Lorraine Langley, Darrell Langley and his friend, Lance Hankins, Doug and Stacey Langley, Dawn and Dustin Courey, Darci and Jay Weakland, Rick and Dorothy Wingert, Shari Tramp, Carol Daniel and Theresa and Jeff Wiener (Theresa was raised by Alvina and Bill); 15 great-grandchildren; a great-stepgrandchild; five great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Carol Ann Schuttpelz; two sisters, Marge Mertz and Dorothy Boyle; and a great-grandson, Jordan Daniel.

Pallbearers will be Joe Boyle, Jerry Mertz, Ralph Mertz, Bob White, Jason Anderson and Dan White. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald White and Mike White, both deceased.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Siouxland Senior Center.
