2 April 2008ANTHON, Iowa -- Wayne C. Roggatz, 73, of Anthon died Monday, March 31, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy battle with Kennedy Disease.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon, with the Rev. Andrew Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Wayne Carl Roggatz was born May 28, 1934, in rural Correctionville, to Carl and Ellen (Jeffrey) Roggatz. He attended country school and started helping out on the family farm at an early age.
He was married to Lois Newman on Nov. 20, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon. He spent his entire life in the farming industry including, grain, livestock, custom hauling, Golden Harvest seed sales and throughout the winters he enjoyed repairing farm equipment.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he held offices of elder, trustee and treasurer and a member of the church dart ball league. When he wasn't farming, he enjoyed woodworking, tractor pulls and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt. He was very fond of his International Farm Equipment and recently restored his 1946 Farmall M, which was the very first tractor he purchased.
He looked forward to spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers, Alvin, Don and Ron, and his cousin, LaVern. He will be remembered for his kind heart and always putting others before himself. Those fortunate to have known him will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Anthon; two daughters and their husbands, Debra and John O'Connell of Anthon and Sherrie and Rob Arvin of Aurora, Colo.; a son and his wife, Doug and Kris of Anthon; eight grandchildren, Bill (Steph) and Mike O'Connell, Christopher and Vanessa Arvin, Eric, Kilee, Kari and Ethan Roggatz; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Lane O'Connell; three brothers and their wives, Alvin and Sandy, Don and Mary Jo and Ron and Linda, all of Correctionville, Iowa; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ron and Karen Newman of Anthon; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Duane; his parents, Carl and Ellen; and his in-laws, Leonard and Pauline.
