Elaine M. Navrkal, 74, of David City, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Services will be 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood, Neb. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Chermok Funeral Home in David City. Condolences may be sent online to www.chermokfuneralhome.com.

Elaine was born in Vermillion, S.D. to Lester and Gertie (Coverdale) Bates. She graduated from a Sioux City high school.

On Oct. 18, 1951, she married Emil Navrkal in Jackson, Neb. She worked as a bookkeeper for Omaha State Bank in Omaha.

She is survived by her husband, Emil of David City; a son, Randy (Linda) of Polk City, Iowa; daughters, Rhonda (Jeff) Thomm of Monroe, Wis., Vicki Stastny of David City, Cheryl (Nick) Schmit of Bellwood, Neb., and Kim (Gary) Meister of David City; brothers, Bob (Marilyn) Bates of Des Moines and Gerald (Barb) Bates of Decatur, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Howard Bates.

Memorials are suggested in care of the family.
