Donald W. Hutcheson, 76, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at his residence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas M. Jacobs of Morningside Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donald was born May 19, 1929, in Miller, S.D., the son of Wayne and Bertha (Carr) Hutcheson. He moved to Onawa, Iowa, as a small child and was raised there. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for about two years. He rejoined the service in 1949, in the U.S. Army and again served for three years.

After he left the service, he returned to Onawa and the Sioux City area. He moved to Sioux City in 1958. He was a construction worker and worked for Irving Jensen Co. for more than 22 years. He retired at the age of 65.

On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Opal M. Demsay in Elk Point, S.D.

He was a member of the Operators Union of Sioux City. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He loved his apple orchard that he had at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Opal of Sioux City; a daughter, Shirley Lowe of Sioux City; four sons, Mike of Iowa City, Iowa, Darrell and his wife, Chris, Tom and his wife, Sharon and Randy, all of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bethine Lockman of Yankton, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Greg Jump, Ronni Anderson, Dave Moore, Billy Hutcheson, Kenneth Hutcheson and John Nelson.
