Laura M. Desy, 98, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at the home of her daughter after a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a 4 p.m. rosary said by Catholic Daughters of America and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Laura was born on Oct. 31, 1907, in Leigh, Neb., the daughter of Charles M. and Sara DeEtte (Olmsted) Taylor. She grew up on various farms near Westfield, Iowa, in Nebraska and near Sioux City. She attended school in Sioux City, going to Smith School, West Junior and Central High School.

She married Lawrence Francis Desy on Aug. 2, 1926, in St. Jean Baptiste Church in Sioux City. Lawrence died on Dec. 29, 1972, in Sioux City. Laura worked for S.S. Kresge Co. in Sioux City for more than 35 years. For many years, she was the store personal manager.

She and Lawrence were long-time active members of St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church. When the church closed in 1972, she became a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Laura was active in the Rosary Society, helping with monthly breakfasts, annual dinners and especially with the Busy Bees sewing club. She loved doing crafts of all kinds and volunteered at the Catholic women's league bargain center, Queen of Peace and Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Survivors include her daughters, Louise and Chandler Cowden of Dexter, Mich., Beverly A. Berver of Sioux City and Jean and Larry Schuetz of Sioux City; 26 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Ginger Schuetz; two grandchildren, Tracy Beaver and Steven Schuetz; a great-grandchild, Anthony Evans; a brother, Sidney; and a sister, Dorothy.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

A memorial has been established in her name for the Queen of Peace Shrine.
