30 November 2005Durwood "Woody" Evans, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Woody had chosen to donate his body to the University of Iowa for medical research. A Family memorial services will be at a later date. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Hanford Post 5 at 6 p.m., at Papich-Kuba Funeral Service in Cedar Rapids.
Woody was born Oct. 17, 1929, in Sioux City and had lived in Cedar Rapids since 1969, moving from Sioux City.
He married Marian K. O'Connor on April 11, 1953, in Igloo, S.D. He was self-employed in the construction industry for many years, retiring in 1995.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a medic. He was a member of the American Legion Hanford Post 5 and 40 & 8. He was an avid collector of many objects, especially carnival glass. He enjoyed working on his computer. In his younger years, he loved fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marian; a son, Dale W. Evans and his wife, Carolyn, of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Marlene Hansen of Smithland, Iowa; and a brother and his wife, Keith Eugene and Connie Evans of South Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Durwood and Edith (Still) Evans Sr.; and a sister, Barb Schwedler.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
