Bernard Leo "Bernie" Olsen, 83, of Pierson, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Lee Williamson of Whitfield United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Olsen was born May 6, 1922, in Hornick, Iowa, the son of Leo and Laura (Eckrich) Olsen. He was the youngest of five brothers and two sisters. He grew up in the Climbing Hill and Hornick, Iowa, area. He lived most of his adult life in Sioux City.

He married Norma Mary Rinker on Nov. 3, 1946, in Sioux City. He was employed with W.A. Klinger, Holtz Construction and Chris Hansen Construction for many years.

He was a longtime member of the Carpenters Union Local 948.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Pierson, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Jerry and Roxanne Olsen of Moville, Iowa, and Mark and Annette Olsen of Robins, Iowa; a daughter, Marilyn Crum of Madison, Wis.; a brother, Miles Olsen of McCook Lake, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jody; his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Russ Gilly, Rod Reed, Scott Hoch, Chris Counterman, Nathan Olsen and Bob Bulit.
