Iola Ahlf, 82, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Jacobs of Morningside Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Pierson Cemetery, Pierson, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. today, with the family present 3 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.

Iola Ahlf was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Newcastle, Neb., the daughter of John Amos and Albertha (Millie) Swick. She grew up and attended school in the Newcastle area and then later moved and attended school in Pierson. She moved to the Siouxland area after her marriage and had been a resident here ever since.

She was united in marriage to Howard Ahlf on Nov. 11, 1943, in South Sioux City. Mr. Ahlf passed away on Oct. 19, 1997, in Sioux City. Iola was employed as a nurse's aide at the former Billy Sunday Retirement home in Sioux City as well as the Westwood Nursing Home.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, sewing, being around children and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Steven and Debby Ahlf of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Dianna and her husband, Tim May, of Madison, S.D., and Jennifer Ahlf of Sioux City; grandchildren, Zachary Ahlf of Hosford, Fla., Melissa Lester of Sioux Falls, S.D., Stefanie Ahlf and Ashly Ahlf, both of Omaha, Vanessa Lester of Madison, Wesley Ahlf of Omaha and Katie Ahlf of Sioux City; two great-grandchildren, Joey Ahlf and Nina Ahlf; three sisters, Alice Swick of Sioux City, Gertrude "Bab" Beckman of South Sioux City and Sue Gant of Tennessee; and two brothers, John Swick of Dakota City and Archie Swick of Washta, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Milton and Melvin Swick; and two sisters, Grace Dunham and Sally Brady.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Zachary and Wesley Ahlf.
