Samuel Walter Seldon, 77, of Sioux City passed to be with his Lord Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at his residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crescent Park United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Lee Williamson and Michelle Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by Tyrian Lodge 508 A.F. & A.M. followed by a prayer service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Sam was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Minneapolis, the son of Walter Fred and Theresa (Schuller) Seldon. He graduated from Pipestone (Minn.) High School in 1945. He entered the U.S. Navy in January 1946, stationed aboard the USS Hawkins. He received the World War II Victory Medal.

He married Norma Jean Clayton on Aug. 9, 1946, at the Great Lakes Naval Station and moved to Sioux City in 1951 and raised two daughters.

He was employed 24 years with KTRI radio station as chief engineer and later with Team Electronics. In 1979, he began his employment with KSCJ radio station as chief engineer, retiring in January 2004. He also established Seldon Electronics, specializing in designing and installing sound systems for churches. He volunteered with the Little Yellow Dog Auction, working the sound system for many years as well as many other organizations.

He was a devoted member and church historian of Crescent Park United Methodist Church, serving on many committees. He loved music and played guitar in many bands beginning in the 1940s and continued to play at church, the South Sioux City Senior Center and many area nursing homes. He was also a devoted member of the Sioux City Masonic Temple, Tyrian Lodge 508 and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma J. Seldon of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Susan J. and William Jacobs of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mary Anne and Douglas Beller of Sergeant Bluff; five grandchildren and their spouses, Sarah and Major Todd Hoover, David and Kylea Jacobs, Clayton Jacobs, Melissa and Michael McClain and Justin Beller; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Jacob and Alexis Hoover, Autumn Beck and Austin McClain; two brothers and their wives, Fred and Carol Ann Seldon and Larry and Delores Seldon, all of Minnesota; several sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was blessed with many friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be William Jacobs, Douglas Beller, David Jacobs, Clayton Jacobs, Justin Beller and Michael McClain. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Anderson, Sonny Woten, Doug Bentley, Phil "Dutch" Collins, Dick Peterson and Rick Lindberg.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials will be given to Crescent Park United Methodist Church in his honor.
