SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Willie Clarence Swarn, 72, of South Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in South Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with Tim Blanchard of Central Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Willie was born May 15, 1932, in Greenwood, Miss., the son of Otis and Mary (Richardson) Swarn. He attended schools in Greenwood. In 1949, he moved to the Sioux City area. He moved to South Sioux City in 1978.

His first job was with Illinois Central Railroad, but he worked the next 30 years with Sioux City Foundry. The last four years, he was employed with Systems Management.

He married Mary Rouse on June 5, 1982.

He was a former member of the Savoy Elks. He loved his family very much. He also loved telling stories, baseball and gambling at Eric's Casino.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Swarn of Pikeville, N.C.; his children, Joann Irvin of Sioux City, Henry Duffy of Sioux City, Paula Nelson of Sioux City, Ronda (Swarn) Blundell of Sloan, Iowa, and Curtis Nelson of Pikeville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ola Mae Rose.
