George Arthur Russell, 68, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in Sioux City.

Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

George Arthur Russell was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Burton Franklin and Mabel Gertrude (Glass) Russell. He attended Sioux City Schools and graduated from Leeds High School. He lived the majority of his life in Sioux City except for short periods of time, including serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at City Hall as a computer technician. He also worked for the Sioux City Police Department and the Department of Transportation.

Survivors include a brother, Dr. Burton Russell of Garner, N.C.; four sisters, Peggy Frerichs of Storm Lake, Iowa, Lilyan Smith of Wichita, Kan., Barbara and her husband, Paul Fleming, of Prairie Village, Kan. and Amy Youngblood of Lufkin, Texas; as well as several nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kenneth Russell.

Pallbearers will be Frank Russell, Russell Frerichs, Mark Frerichs, David Youngblood and Roy Youngblood.
