Dorothy M. (Newton) Julius, 79, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Fisch of Mayflower Congregational Church officiating.

Dorothy was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Sioux City, the daughter of Carl and Bessie Newton. She married Wilbur R. Julius on April 24, 1943. The couple made their home in Sioux City.

She was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church for more than 50 years and served on various boards. She served the community as a member of the board of directors of the Sioux City Art Center and as president of the city wide P.T.A. Council. She also was a member of the Siouxland Artist.

She enjoyed gardening and time at their lake home. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years; three daughters, Janet and her husband, Jim Winslow of Morrison, Ill., Sally Coupe and Peggy and her husband, Jeff Slotsky, all of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Nichols, Amanda Coupe, Yvette Stansbury, Paul Julius, Sarah Julius, Emily Julius, Greg Slotsky, Jacey Tevis, Stephanie Grahek and Michelle Winslow; six great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Newton, Ruth Newton, Marjorie Newton and Mary Julius; a brother-in-law, Glen Larson; and a cousin, Alberta Nelson.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilbur, Clyde, Donald and Chuck Newton; and a sister, Florence Clausen.
