William L. "Bill" Schol, 72, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in a traffic-related accident.

Memorial services will be noon Friday at Morningside Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Thomas Jacobs officiating. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

William L. Schol was born March 31, 1932, in Hull, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Theodora (Brouwer) Schol. He graduated from Hull High School and Northwestern College in Orange City where he majored in business.

He married Blanche E. Kraai on March 31, 1953, in Orange City. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces, division of the military police, receiving an honorable discharge.

His business career in Sioux City included office manager of CIT Financial Corporation. He was employed with Home Federal Savings and Loan, now First Federal Saving Bank, where he was an assistant vice president. He was an advisory board member of the Iowa College Aid Commission. He graduated from the University of Washington School for Executive Development and from the American Savings and Loan Institute in Chicago, Ill. He was a member of the United States Savings and Loan League.

He was a district manager for the Sioux City Journal for 10 years. He was a member of the former Sioux City Civil Defense and Sioux City Toastmaster's International Club.

He was a member and a former president of the Noon Lions Club. He was named a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor conferred by the Lions Club International Foundation. He received the Warren Coleman Honorary Award, Iowa Lions Foundation for dedicated service in Lionism.

He was a leader in the former Sergeant Floyd Council Boy Scouts of America, now the Prairie Gold Area Council Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He received the Wood Badge Award, Scouter Key, Scouter Training Award and the District Award of Merit. He served in numerous unit positions including scoutmaster.

He was a member of the Morningside Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed being involved in the church life, serving as a former elder and was involved in all areas of church ministry. He had personally accepted and professed his faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He had organized and was active in mission trips to Mexico through the Assembly of God AIM ministries.

He enjoyed the outdoors. His interests included hunting, fishing, camping, sports and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche; two sons, David L. Schol and Robert L. Schol and his wife, Cindy, all of Sioux City; brothers-in-law, Merlyn Kraai and his wife, Gertrude of Orange City and Dale Kraai of Hull; grandchildren, Sabrina Schol and Michelle Schol, both of Sioux City; stepgrandson, Todd Wingert of Sioux City; stepgranddaughter, Rebecca (Wingert) and her husband, Michael Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a great-granddaughter, Kadence Carlson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, William and Gertrude Kraai; a daughter-in-law, Sherrie Schol; brothers-in-law, Lee and Russell Kraai; and sisters-in-law, Wilma and Doris Kraai.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Blakley, George Beesan, Ray Collier, Loren Dake, Gary Erwin, George Wall and the Rev. Mike Ybarra.

Memorials may be directed to the family in his name.
