Dennis Russel Parks, 79, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, formerly Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Dennis was born May 22, 1925, in rural Sioux City, the son of Dennis Raymond and Nina Lottie (Nelson) Parks. He resided in Sioux City the majority of his adult life.

He married Jeannette Spies on Dec. 2, 1944, in Sioux City. Jeannette preceded him in death in October 1970, in California. He later married Evelyn B. (Hlavac) Uhl on Oct. 30, 1971, in Elk Point, S.D. Prior to retiring, Dennis had been employed with Wilson Trailer for several years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His hobby was mechanical work.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a son and his wife, Leland and Virginia Parks of Newberg, Ore.; a daughter and her husband, Rebecca Ann and Gary Homesley of Fontana, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Colpetzer; two grandsons, Shayne and Shannon Stanfield; and three sisters, Mary Ellen Hardersen, Betty Chamley and Pauline Epling.

Pallbearers will be Gary Hardersen, Dennis Epling, Rick Epling, Rod Lane, Ryan Kluender and Roger Kluender.
