Leone P. Murdock, 81, of Sioux City died Friday, July 7, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Chuck Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Leone was born March 10, 1925, in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of John P. and Anna (Kjeer) Johnson. She came to Sioux City at the age of 14 and later worked at Green Gables Restaurant before her marriage.

She married Elmer Murdock on Sept. 2, 1947, in Sioux City. He died Aug. 21, 1990, in Sioux City. Leone worked at Arcadia Restaurant and then ran a day care in her home for 56 years.

She was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church and Ruth's Circle of the church. Leone enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafts and was an avid gardener.

Survivors include three sons, Marvin Murdock and his wife, Debra of Bridgewater, S.D., Roy Murdock of Sioux City and Jerry Murdock and his wife, Shirley of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Rodney Schulz and Beth and Kenny Strickland, all of Sioux City; a brother, Mearl Johnson and his wife, Betty of Dunlap, Iowa; two sisters, Jeanette Peyton of Omaha and Virgia Savery and her husband, Dale of Bentonville, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mark; and a great-grandson, Michael.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy, Mark, Seth, Josh and David Murdock, Chad Crosgrove and Chris Hall.
