Kirk Wood, 49, of Richland, Wash., formerly of Sioux City died June 17, 2006, at Kadlec Medical Center in Washington.

Memorial services were held June 24 at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland. Condolences may be sent online to www.einansfuneralhome.com.

Kirk was born Sept. 21, 1956, in Sioux City. He lived here until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1974. He served aboard the USS Tarawa and was honorably discharged in 1978. He then moved back to Sioux City.

He married Paula Von Hagel on Nov. 3, 1979. In 1985, they moved to Pasco, Wash. and in 1988 he started work at United Nuclear Corporation in Richland as an operating engineer. He later transferred to the HAMMER Training Facility, where he worked until 2005.

He loved to go camping and fishing with family and friends, especially the yearly trip to Twin Lakes. He loved to help people and make them laugh. He will be missed by many.

Survivors left to embrace his memory are his daughters, Heather at home and Jennifer and her fiance, Curt Mattila, of Pasco, Wash.; his father, Leo (Harriet) Wood of North Sioux City; his mother, Diane (Orville) Eckstine of Burbank, Wash.; a brother, Michael Wood of Omaha; three sisters, Michelle Carley of West Richland, Wash., Pam (Mark) Heisler of Boise, Idaho, and Nicole Packard of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
