Ellen G. O'Neil, 92, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Greg Hanneman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. O'Neil was born June 3, 1913, in Sioux City, the daughter of Alfred and Johanna (Benson) Mathson. She graduated from Central High School in 1931.

She married Don R. O'Neil on June 6, 1946, in Omaha. She was a bookkeeper at Pilley's Poultry, a child care provider for several years and a homemaker while raising her children. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident.

Years ago, she and her identical twin sister, Helen, enjoyed entertaining with singing and guitar playing on the radio, for various churches and other social functions in the area. She also enjoyed playing the piano, and in later years, she enjoyed fishing, reading and playing with her grandchildren. She will be mostly remembered for her devotion to the Lord, her family and friends.

She was confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church. She had been a member of St. John Lutheran Church for many years.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Candy Noonan-Johnson and Gary Johnson of Sioux City; two sons, Dennis O'Neil of Lincoln, Neb., and Steve O'Neil and his wife, Pam Nelson-O'Neil of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Brian Noonan, Leah Noonan, Sarah Noonan, Kinsey O'Neil, Dan O'Neil, Keegan O'Neil and Connor O'Neil; a stepgranddaughter, Leah Andersen; two great-stepgrandchildren, Kylie and Baylie; and two special nieces, Lovace Munson and Doris (Eberle) Skidmore.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, her identical twin sister, Helen Gezewski, Anna Bergstrom and Lillie Munson; and two brothers, Gus Mathson and Arnie Mathson.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
