M. Maurine Coughlin, 82, of Sioux City died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin J. Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Maurine was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of John and Maude (Robinson) Coughlin. She was raised in Sioux City. She attended and graduated from Cathedral Grade School and High School. She graduated from Briar Cliff College in 1944, with her teaching degree in mathematics.

She lived in Los Angeles, Calif., for more than 40 years. She taught algebra and geometry in the Los Angeles High School System for 32 years, retiring in 1983. She returned to Sioux City in 1994.

She was a member of the National Education Association. She also was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America Ave Maria Court 269 and a volunteer at Trinity Heights and Queen of Peace. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond and Vincent Coughlin in infancy, James R. and William Joseph Coughlin.

Pallbearers will be Terry, Jim, Mike, Teresa, Pat and Carolyn Coughlin.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Trinity Heights and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
