SLOAN, Iowa -- Karen K. Hansen, 58, of Sloan passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at a Sergeant Bluff care center.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with Glen Houts, chaplain of Hospice of Siouxland, officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa.

Karen Kay Hansen was born April 22, 1947, the daughter of Verle and Ruth (Kollbaum) Bowers. She attended school at Anthon-Oto High School. In the late 1990s, she lived in Arizona and returned to the Siouxland area in 2001, eventually settling in Sloan. She most recently worked at Pech Optical until her health failed.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan and her husband, Rick Pulscher of Hospers, Iowa, and Michele Heck of Sloan; a son and his wife, Michael L. and Cassandra Hansen of Sioux City; her mother, Ruth Malone of Lyons, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Arlene Bowers of Sioux City; a sister, Marcia Nelson of Homer, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, Lindsey, Amanda, Drew, Hallie, McKenzie, Courtney, Katelyn, Alexa, Miranda and Devon; two great-grandchildren, Beau and Landon; her special friends from Pech Optical; and her beloved cat, Taz.

She was preceded in death by her father, Verle in 1975; and a daughter, Wendy Gehrke Fischlein in 1988.

In the past, she enjoyed traveling and was interested in bird watching in the areas that she visited around the country.
