Stephen Michael Scott, 54, of Iowa Park, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, in a Wichita Falls, Texas hospital.

Memorial services were held Oct. 10 at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park, Texas, where the Rev. Tim Kohlmeier of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church officiated. He was cremated and his ashes will be strewn of the Berthoud Pass in the Colorado Rockies, where he vacationed with his wife and children. A man as great has he belongs with the land, carried on the wind and echoing through the ages.

Stephen was born Dec. 1, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Erwin Burnell and Margery (Hansen) Scott. His father preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was "a mountain of a man" who' in the words of his son, "had legs like tree trucks." He was as tough as the boots he wore.

He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Tindell, who was the light of his life on Dec. 19, 1970, in Sioux City. They lived, loved and laughed together until his passing. He retired from General Motors as senior project engineer, but was a cowboy at heart.

He was a hard worker who adored his family, loved the outdoors and had a kinship with animals.

He is survived by his wife, Susan of Iowa Park; two daughters and their husbands, Aimee and Raymond Hernandez of Iowa Park and Abigail and Mack Carter of Iowa Park; a son, Joshua Scott of Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren, Olivia and Matthew Hernandez of Iowa Park; his mother, Margery Scott of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Seth and Beth Scott of Sioux City; three sisters and their husbands, Anne Marie and Willie Petty of Las Vegas, Nev., JoEllen and Don Holthaus of Topeka, Kan., and Catherine and Rick Andersen of Sioux City; a sister, Lori Figueroa of Sioux City; a sister-in-law and her husband, Sandra Tindell and Arie of Redmond, Wash.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Tami Tindell of Richland, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to the Lupus Research Association or the American Heart Association.
