Cherry A. Hamlin, 65, of South Sioux City died Wednesday, June 10, 1998 at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City with the Rev. Nathan C. Houfek officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Hamlin was born January 29, 1933 in Allen, Nebraska, the daughter of Richard and Esther (Hansen) Kingston. She graduated from Allen High School in 1950.

She married James G. Hamlin Sr. on April 17, 1954 in Merced, California. The couple moved to South Sioux City in 1954. She was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone from 1960 to 1987. She sold real estate for Stinger-Albertsen Company from 1977 to 1987. He died August 30, 1996 in South Sioux City.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Communications Workers of America, the Eastern Star Laura Chapter 301 and the ABWA.

Survivors include a son and his wife, James Gray Jr. and Nondas of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter and her husband, Pamela and Gene Blaker of South Sioux City, her mother of South Sioux City, a brother and his wife, Richard “Buddy” and Elaine Kingston of South Sioux City; three sisters, Dixie and her husband Albert Johnson of Lake Charles, La., Bonnie Cooper of South Sioux City and Donna Boardman of Harrington, Nebraska and three grandchildren, Tyler Blaker, Ryan and Corey Hamlin.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Copple, Rick Kingston, Greg Carter, Doug Gude, Jack Winkelman and Dean Dressler.
