Marvin E. Johnson, 72, of Sloan, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997, at Matney Westside Manor in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mr. Johnson was born on July 11, 1925, at Lawton, Iowa, the son of Frank and Ethel (Craig) Johnson. In 1942, he graduated from Sloan High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and also the Merchant Marines. On September 17, 1948 he married Ardelle L. Gerjets in Sioux City, Iowa. She died September 19, 1971, in Onawa, Iowa. He farmed in the Sloan area until retiring in 1977.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Laurie and Mike Hanlon of Sioux City and Lynne and Isaiah Reliford of Kansas City, Missouri, one son and his wife, Lane and Christy Johnson of Sioux City, three grandsons, Michael Aaron Reliford of Kansas City, Missouri, Eric Owings and his wife, Jennifer of Sioux City and Nathan Hanlon of Sioux City, two granddaughters, Rhonda and her husband, David Williams of Kansas City, Missouri, Stephanie and her husband, Michael Fuller of Kansas City, Missouri and Tiffani Johnson of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ardelle.

Memorial services were held Saturday, November 22, 1997 at the Wood Funeral Chapel, Sloan, Iowa with Rev. Tom Jacobs officiating. The organist, Mrs. Wilbur Ray played selections, “Amazing Grace” and “Nearer My God To Thee.”

Interment was at a later date in the Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa with the arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
