Dakotan Dies As He Reaches Sioux City
John Engelgau, of Carter, South Dakota, Came Here to Get Relief From Long Illness

John Engelgau, of Carter, Tripp County, South Dakota, 31 years old, expired at 1:20 today, just after he stepped from the train that had brought him to Sioux City, where he hoped to secure relief from a mysterious disease from which he had been suffering for years. He was accompanied by his brother, Edward. As the two prepared to leave the cars, John, weak from his continued illness, passed into unconsciousness. Thinking that his brother had merely fainted, Edward had him hurried to a cab, and rushed to the offices of Dr. Johnson & Rowley, in the Massachusetts block. It was only after the body had been placed on a couch in the physician’s office that it was discovered that life was extinct.

John and Edward Engelgau arrived in the city at 1:20 o’clock, coming in over the Burlington line from O’Neill, Nebraska. At a late hour, it was not known what was the cause of death.
