Smith, Musician, Is Dead
Was Member of Orpheum Orchestra
Theater Goers Knew Him
Had Benn Ill for Several Months and Was Seized With Tuberculosis After Having Had Influenza--
Trip to Denver of No Avail

Vernard V. Smith, a trombone player formerly employed in the Orpheum orchestra and in Reed’s band, died of tuberculosis at his home, 102 Fourteenth Street, early yesterday morning. He was 32 years old.

Mr. Smith had been in failing health for several months. He suffered an attack of influenza last fall and never fully recovered from the effects of this malady. Tuberculosis followed influenza and Mr. Smith was compelled to leave Sioux City. He went to Denver last November, but his condition failed to improve materially. He returned to Sioux City in the latter part of January.

Mr. Smith’s tall, slender figure and his trombone were known to practically every theater goer in Sioux City. He was a member of the Orpheum orchestra for about six years and also played at the Grand and Princess theaters. As a member of Reed’s Band he was always seen marching in the front rank.

Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Smith; two brothers, Herbert Smith and William Smith and one sister, Miss Mona Smith. No funeral arrangements have been made.
