Robert H. Lau, 80, of Salix, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites provided by the U.S. Navy, and VFW Post 662. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.

Robert Harry Lau was born on Oct. 1, 1938, in Sioux City, the son of Harry and Florence "Pat" (Tucker) Lau. He went to school and graduated from Luton, High School in 1957. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October 1955 and served on active duty aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard.

On Nov. 12, 1960, Robert married Carolyn Stinger and moved to Luton, where they raised their family. He was a manager at Valero Energy Corporation until his retirement on Aug. 19, 1992.

Robert was a NASCAR fan and collected John Deere tractors. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his two sons, Monte Lau of Owasso, Okla., and Randy ( Shelle) Lau of LaVista, Neb.; three sisters, Bobbette (Marvin) Moreland of Sioux City, Judy Erickson of Perry, Kan., and Barbara (Richard) Mercer of Salix; five grandchildren, Cory (Treola), Ashley (John), Zach, Austin, and Marissa; and two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Mack.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Lau.
