Patricia Gaynelle Benton, 89, of Sioux City, went to Heaven to join her many friends, family and dogs who preceded her on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018. She had struggled recently with health concerns for several months and peacefully departed Sunday night surrounded by family.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with the family present will start at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery.

Pat was born in Sioux City on April 29, 1929, the only child of Edmund and Evelyn Wiese.

She and Dick were married after he saw her picture featured in the Sioux City Journal while he was stationed in Japan in 1945. He proceeded to charm her with letters and then in person upon his return, leading to their marriage 70 years ago. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and homemaker, while working most of her child-rearing years in healthcare and retail sales, as well as attending college.

She always filled the room with joy, positive thoughts, and her million-dollar smile. Her presence brightened any event and countless memories were created on holidays, anniversaries and other family gatherings at their home and their favorite vacation spot, Lake Okoboji.

They moved to the house of their dreams on Four Seasons Drive 22 years ago, where she enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing and well-deserved retirement, celebrating life and continuing to host friends and family where she displayed her amazing talents around the kitchen.

If you knew her, she instantly became your friend. Her legacy includes the valuable lessons of devotion, patience, kindness, consideration, sacrifice, and above all, a firm commitment to serving her family and others in the most compassionate of Christian philosophies.

She showed us all how to love and give unconditionally and will forever be in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. F. Richard “Dick” Benton; two sons, Douglas (Arlene) of Marshfield, Wis., and Bradley (Ann) of Paola, Kan.; five grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Michelle, Christina and Mike; and nine great-grandchildren.
