Cherokee Pioneer Dies Here
Mrs. Mary Lawlis Succumbs at Home of Her Daughter

Mrs. Mary Lawlis, 84 years old, a resident of Cherokee, Iowa for thirty-five years, died of erysipelas at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.J. Dyer, 815 Sixth Street, yesterday morning. Mrs. Lawlis was born in Ireland, March 2, 1836. She came to the United States with her parents when she was 15 years old. She moved to Cherokee, Iowa from Albany, Wisconsin in 1885.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters, Thomas Lawlis of Cherokee, Iowa, James Lawlis of Sioux City, John Lawlis of Hawarden, Iowa, Mrs. E.J. Dyer of Sioux City and Mrs. A.J. Nicholas of Sioux City.

The body will be sent from the Westcott undertaking parlors to Cherokee, Iowa today. Funeral services will be held at Cherokee tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock.
