Sergeant Bluff

Samuel E. McLarty, 76, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, from complications relating to the West Nile virus.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Salix Community United Methodist Church in Salix, Iowa with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com.

Samuel was born on May 9, 1942, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Austin and Vema (Hobbs) McLarty. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1961.

Sam married Darlene “Bunny” Lamoureux on April 16, 1966, in Salix. They made their home in Sergeant Bluff. He worked at Wilson Trailer, Farmland, Casler Electric, and other various jobs to keep himself out of mischief.

Sam loved his family, especially his wife, Bunny and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, fishing and attending the occasional auction in his spare time. He would watch any sporting event on TV. Sam especially enjoyed playing cribbage and drinking a nice cold beer with the guys at Walkers. He always lent a helping hand and was quick with a joke.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Darlene “Bunny” McLarty of Sergeant Bluff; two daughters, Sharla Dicks of Salix and Tammy (Scotty) Sullivan of Prague, Okla.; granddaughters, LeAnn (Travis) Yockey of Onawa, Iowa and Trissa (Kevin) Wankum of Merrill, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Adam, Lincoln, Lindyn, Hailey and Hannah; and his sister, Ella (Fred) Nelsen of Salix.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Vema McLarty; two brothers, Richard (Elvina) McLarty and Ronnie McLarty; and one sister, Paula (George) Wood.
