Lydia A. McClaran Birdsell, 1915-1996

Storm Lake, Iowa – Lydia A. Birdsell, 81, former co-owner of Birdsell Furniture, of Storm Lake, died Friday, Dec. 14, 1996, at a Fort Collins, Colo., nursing home following a lengthy illness.

A prayer service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Fratzke Funeral Home, with the Rev. Duane Queen officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the prayer service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Birdsell was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Sioux City, the daughter of Clarence Oliver and Lydia Lincoln Steinhauer McClaran.

She graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in business.

She married Earl W. Birdsell on July 29, 1938 in Sioux City. She and her husband owned and operated Birdsell Furniture in Storm Lake from 1947 to 1978. Mr. Birdsell died May 19, 1990.

She was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Vicki and Richard Hout of Fort Collins; two sons and their wives, Gary and Mary of Fort Collins and Duane and Sandy of Hillsville, Penn.; a brother and his wife, Marvin and Ruth McClaran of Fort Collins; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
