Area Obituaries

Correctionville, Iowa – Lloyd ‘Ching’ Sawin , 85, of Correctionville, died Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital of long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Grace United Methodist Church at Correctionville. The Rev. Matt Leach will officiate. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today in the Walter Funeral Home at Anthon.

Mr. Sawin was born June 24, 1894, at Oto. He graduated from the Oto High School and attended the Conservatory of Music at Omaha. He played in several bands in northwest Iowa many years. He farmed in the Oto and Anthon communities. He lived in Sioux City several years, and the last 5 ½ years in Correctionville. He spent the last 10 winters in Texas.

He married Florence Willmott June 12, 1929, at Elk Point. He retired from farming in 1947 and moved into Anthon.

He was school board director in Grant Township and also for Anthon public school. He was chairman of the Grant Township Soil Conservation Committee and was a member of the Federal Land Bank Board, Woodbury County Democratic Committee for many years and Grace Methodist Church.

He married Julia Duncan Sept. 12, 1974, at Elk Point, S.D.

Survivors include the widow: two sons, Carroll of Lincoln, Neb. and Keith of Sioux City; one daughter, Mrs. Duane (Lucy) Lorenzen of Amarillo, Texas; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Roger (Mary) Henningsen of Albert City; one stepson, Wallace Duncan of Correctionville; nine grandchildren; eight stepsister, Mrs. Bernice Benton of Oto; and one stepbrother, Claude Kimsey in California.
