Former Pastor in Final Rest

Dr. H.V. Riggs, 65, pastor of the E.U.B. Church at Bolan, Ia. died at the University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City, early Friday morning, July 1, 1955.

Funeral services were held in the Bolan E.U.B. Church Tuesday afternoon from the Graves Memorial E.U.B. church in Waterloo. Rev. John Dowd of Ft. Dodge, Rev. L.K. Anderson of Des Moines and Rev. W.Z. Henline of Gilman officiated. A trio composed of nephews, Rev. Carl Riggs, Robert Riggs and Donald Riggs sang ‘Precioux Lord Take My Hand’. They were accompanied by their sister Jean Riggs. Dr. Riggs had requested that his son Dick should sing ‘Going Home’ so a recording had been made some time ago and was played back at his service.

Pallbearers were: Rev. LeRoy Carter, Camanchi; Rev. Dwaine Voss, Ft. Dodge; Rev. E.M. Miller, Summer; Rev. J.I. LFave, Rev. Ward Farr, Rev. O.M. Vaggy, all of Cedar Falls.

Burial was in the Riverside Park cemetery at Cedar Falls.

Rev. Hal. V. Riggs was born at Castalia, Ia., on January 18, 1890. He was married to Alta Kleinfelter on August 13, 1913.

He is survived by his widow, Alta, of Kensett, Ia., two sons, Harold of Detroit, Mich., and Dick of Keosauqua, Ia., four daughters (Floy) Mrs. Allan Peterson, Minneapolis, Minn., (Dorothy) Mrs. Russell Dunlop, Waterloo; (Bertha) Mrs. Chas. Boone, Wichita, Kan., (Faith) Mrs. Wm. Johnson, Cedar Falls, a brother Rev. Paul Riggs of Nebraska and fourteen grandchildren.

Dr. H.V. Riggs served the local E.U.B. Church from 1938 to 1945.

Attending the services at Waterloo from here were Mrs. Jas. Pratt, Mrs. Claude Scoles, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Babcock and family.
