James Edward FitzGerald, 44, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. FitzGerald, 1821 Ross Street, died late Monday afternoon at his home in San Jose, California, of a heart attack.

Mr. Fitzgerald, a prominent insurance man in California, was born March 24, 1898, in Chillicothe, Missouri and was graduated from the Sioux City High School. After attending Iowa State College at Ames for two years he enlisted in the ambulance corps and served on the Italian front in the First World War.

Following the war he entered Oregon State College and after being graduated served two years as an instructor in the civil engineering department of the college.

Ten years ago Mr. FitzGerald begin work with the Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Company of Philadelphia and became one of the company’s leading salesmen. He was a member of the Million Dollar Club, an honor held by about 100 of the insurance writers in the United States.

Mr. FitzGerald was a member of the Masonic lodge and the consistory at San Jose. He had visited his parents here in January on his way back to California from an insurance meeting in Philadelphia.

Surviving in addition to the parents are the widow, Mrs. Leah FitzGerald and three daughters, Jeane, Mary and Ruth all of San Jose; two brothers, Donald of Stockton, California and Kenneth of Medford, Oregon and two sisters, Mrs. Lois Malcom of Cincinnati and Mrs. Frances MacDuff of Alton, Illinois.

Funeral services and burial will be in California.
